Day 3: Wednesday, May 12th
10:00 am
I woke up late and ended up missing the first few minutes of Voices of Color this morning. I haven't really been feeling great the last few days and I've been really tired. Today I am going to talk with Shauna and discuss what I have come up with so far and adjust/proceed accordingly. Just to recap, I've chosen two books, and written paper topics for each and a project to go along with them. After I discuss with Shauna, I will most likely have my goal for the day set into place.
11:00 am
So far I have come up with a final project idea for the book that the class is currently reading. The novel that they are reading is "Little Fires Everywhere" by Celeste Ng, and I wanted to make the project fun so, of course, being me, I incorporated art into it. My idea is that students are going to use their imagination to reconstruct a scene from the novel using any medium of their choice (as long as it's fun and colorful!) like paints, crayons, colored pencils, etc. To go along with the picture, the students must write an artist's statement to go along with it. Hopefully this will be something fun and easy for the students to finish off their year with.
12:00 pm
My goal for the rest of the day is to read over college essay prompts for the Common App and come up with some discussion questions to help out the juniors with their essays. Then, I need to map out time frames for each of these novels and decipher how much time should be spent on reading, papers, projects, etc. I also need to figure out what each class is going to look like in terms of discussions and recaps of the assigned reading. My guess is that this will take me the rest of the day, and might carry on to tomorrow as well.
1:00 pm
I am about to go to to the barn so I am going to take a break. I still have an hour left to complete my four hours for the day, so I will be back later to finish that. Here's a picture of Sunny!
4:00 pm
Just got back from riding, about to finish up roughly what the schedule will look like in the fall.
5:00 pm
For the last hour, I have made a list of all of the juniors in Voices of Color that I am going to help with their college essays. I made a timesheet that I am going to send out to these students where they can sign up for one on one time with me to discuss topics and ask any questions that they might have. I am not sure yet exactly when I will be sending it out, but it will probably either be by the end of this week or next week sometime. Today was weird for me because my four hours got broken up a little bit, but it still felt pretty productive. After the 4 hours that I put in today, I have completed a total of 12 hours so far. I might add on a few more tomorrow or Friday just so I can get a little ahead. Thanks for tuning in, see you tomorrow!
